Hi there. I'm Amanda, the founder of fl~xscapes.
I am a water resiliency consultant, researcher, and designer working at many scales from the pixel to the region. Over the past decade, I have been fortunate to partner with organizations and communities to develop sustainable solutions for complex water challenges, from urban flood management to climate adaptation strategies. My passion is working with other creative minds on pressing environmental issues and working collectively to design resilient futures. I am a Fulbright Research Fellow who will continue my research in November, utilizing animation and GIS to map water systems in the peri-urban landscape of Bengaluru, India, developing strategies for water-sensitive urban development. Read more about that journey in my "Field Notes".
Raised in a cloud of sawdust, my life was crafted out of wood, laughter, and exploration. Daughter of a maker and a poet, I was scheming up fantasy lands and building them in the trees outside my dad's house at a very young age—often imagining how water would flow through these miniature worlds. Inside the house, I served as a construction assistant and residential design consultant at the age of eight for the life-long project of my father's home, learning early how buildings and landscapes work together with natural systems. At my mom's house, my ears were drenched with beautiful sounds of southern blues from wailing guitars to soulful melodies that spoke of rivers and rain.
